2009 Hunting Season Almost Underway

Evidence the hunting season is almost upon us is becoming increasingly obvious.  The stags are stripping their antlers and showing the effects of increasing testosterone levels!  It is clear from their stroppy behaviour they are looking for a fight.  The spring conditions were perfect for antler growth, warm and plenty of rain.  There are likely to be some real rippers shot in the coming months.

While the red stags will be the focus for the early weeks of the season, the increasing interest in tahr hunting has been a feature both at SCI Reno and in inquiries received over the past few weeks.  A genuine tahr hunt on foot in New Zealand is one of the outstanding hunting experiences you will have anywhere. A magnificent game animal perfectly tuned to its environment, which in itself is stunning, makes for a challenging and highly rewarding hunt. Mid may onwards is ideal because the coats are fully developed and there is a bit of snow to push the animals lower, making them more accessible to hunters.  Even so, pack warm clothes for a tahr hunt in New Zealand!!
